2013 WCSU Alumni Association to hold golf tournament Sept. 30
DANBURY, CONN. — The Western Connecticut State University Alumni Association will hold its 28th Annual Golf Tournament to support scholarships for WCSU students on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at Richter Park Golf Course, 100 Aunt Hack Road in Danbury. The tournament will be conducted in scramble format with a shot-gun start at 10 a.m. Check-in and continental breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m., with lunch offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The tournament program will conclude with a player awards reception at 3 p.m. at the Café on the Green.
Registration is open to the public to reserve places for tournament play, at a cost of $175 per individual and $700 per foursome. The association also is offering a wide range of sponsorship opportunities; sponsor forms may be downloaded online from the Alumni Association “Golf Outing” page on the WCSU website.
This year’s event will be held in memory of WCSU alumnus Neil Wagner, Class of ’52, a lifetime member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors and former dean of the University Center for Lifelong Learning, president of the Faculty Association, chair of the Varsity Governing Board, class adviser, member of the university governance committee and Alumni Golf Tournament co-chairman. Wagner passed away in May 2013.
“The Alumni Association Golf Tournament brings together WCSU alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends for a great day of golf while also supporting an amazing cause — student scholarships,” WCSU Director of Alumni Relations Tammy Hammershoy said. “The success of this event rests largely on community support and sponsorship. We welcome anyone who wants to play in or sponsor the tournament to join us.”
Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the WCSU Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, which annually awards scholarships recognizing Western undergraduate students who have demonstrated exemplary academic achievement and participation in university and community activities. The fund also provides for the association’s annual award to a graduate student based on academic performance and financial need, and the annual May Sherwood Memorial Scholarship given to a senior in high academic standing with a major in education.
The 2013 Alumni Association Golf Committee has been led by Al Mead as chairman and George Mulvaney as honorary chairman. Other members of the committee include Eileen Coladarci, Tom Crucitti, Joe Giaquinto, Jan Maria Jagush, Gary Lucente, Heather Stone and Hammershoy.
