2013 Career Fair
Western’s annual Career Fair is a showcase not only for area employers but also for WCSU students and graduates who are entering the job market well-prepared and polished.
Having an edge in today’s job market is what students graduating from Western Connecticut State University can count on. At this year’s annual WCSU Career Fair held on April 10 at the Westside campus O’Neill Center, hundreds of students put on their best business attire to meet some of the area’s top employers.
Some 500 WCSU students and graduates met with employers from more than 60 organizations.
“By talking to prospective employers, I am able to build on what I’ve learned through Western,” said Parth Patel, a senior business management major from Wallingford. “Without that kind of help, I wouldn’t know where to start. These companies have jobs to offer. The doors are open to try and set up my future.”
The Career Development Center (CDC) is located on the Midtown campus in the Student Center, second floor, Room 227. The CDC provides a wide range of career-related and employment services to students. Staff members also work extensively with employers in referring students and alumni for job opportunities.
Many WCSU students gave credit to their professors and to the staff at the CDC.
“They pointed out things like the 30-second speech,” said Sanya Ith, a WCSU senior majoring in accounting and finance. “They were very helpful and answered questions. It would have had a negative impact on my job search not to have it.”
“They taught me how to talk, how to present myself, how to dress and how to prepare my resume,” Patel said. “I came last year, so I knew how it was set up — it was even easier this year to find everything. The set-up is perfect so you can go from booth to booth. If I show that I am interested and prepared, they show interest in me.”
A senior business management and music major from Waterbury, Norris Person said that “because I presented myself in a professional manner, they responded to me in a positive manner.”
