DANBURY, CONN. — The holiday season will be filled with music as the Western Connecticut State University Department of Music hosts an array of musical events throughout December 2015 from opera and percussion to holiday jazz.

All performances, unless otherwise indicated, will be held in the Veronica Hagman Concert Hall of the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury and are open to the public. Thursday, Dec. 3: The WCSU Orchestra will perform at 8 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 4: Frankensax and Jazz Ensemble will perform at 8 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 5: WCSU Opera presents “Trouble in Tahiti” by Leonard Bernstein at 8 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 6: Holiday Jazz featuring Frankensax with Andrew Beals conducting; the WCSU Jazz Ensemble with Jimmy Greene conducting; and the WCSU Jazz Orchestra with Jamie Begian conducting at 3 p.m.

Monday, Dec. 7: The WCSU New Music Ensemble, conducted by Fernando Jimenez, and the Percussion Ensemble, conducted by David Smith, will perform at 8 p.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 9: The WCSU Symphonic Band conducted by Timothy Wiggins, will perform at 8 p.m.

Friday and Saturday, Dec. 11 and 12: The WCSU Opera will perform the annual holiday classic “Amahl and the Night Visitors” at 7 p.m. on Friday and at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

NOTE: “Amahl and the Night Visitors” will be held in Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Tickets for this event are available at www.wcsu.edu/tickets.
