DANBURY, CONN. — For the sixth consecutive year, students and faculty at Western Connecticut State University will present the award-winning live election coverage show “Election Connection,” which will air from 8 p.m. to midnight on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016.

The “Election Connection” broadcast from the newly built high-definition TV studio in Higgins Hall Annex on the university’s Midtown campus will reach viewers in western and central Connecticut on Charter Cable Channel 192, with simultaneous airing on WXCI-91.7FM and live streaming on the university website at www.wcsu.edu/live. Coordinated by executive producer Dr. JC Barone, associate professor of communication and media arts, this year’s broadcast will feature up-to-the-minute coverage of the 2016 presidential election. The show also will cover the U.S. Senate race in Connecticut as Republican state Rep. Dan Carter attempts to unseat Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal, and the Fifth Congressional District race where Republican First Selectman Clay Cope of Sherman challenges Democratic Rep. Elizabeth Esty.

The program will be directed by Jimmy Fitch, of Waterbury, with the support of producers John Board, of Redding; Steve Wasserman, of Orange; and Jason Burk, of Madison.

Students Michael C. Medeiros, of Danbury; Katie Kelly, of Stratford; Chris Walker, of Danbury; and JP Sheehan, of Bethel, will be joined at the anchor desk by Professor of Justice and Law Administration Dr. Casey Jordan. Guest faculty anchors from the Department of Communication and Media Arts will include Professor Dr. D.L. Stephenson and Adjunct Professor Dr. Jacqueline Guzda. Student Emmet Forrester, of New Fairfield, will provide analysis of polls, voting trends and the electoral map.

Confirmed guests on the show include Republican state representative candidate Veasna Roeun and Democratic state Senate candidate Kenneth Gucker.

An election night Watch Party will be held at the WCSU Westside Campus Center Ballroom from 8 to 11 p.m., hosted by students from the “Radio Broadcasting” course taught by Adjunct Professor of Communication and Media Arts Tom Zarecki. The Watch Party will be free and open to the public.

WCSU’s “Election Connection” productions have consistently earned honors from professional organizations in the communications field. Recently, the “Election Connection” 2015 broadcast received second place in the category of Studio Multi-Camera Production at the Broadcast Education Association 2016 Festival of Media Arts, chosen from a field of more than 1,500 submissions from colleges nationwide in festival competition. The production also earned a nomination for 2015 regional student honors in the prestigious National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences awards competition. Previous recognitions include 2012 and 2013 Telly Awards for Live Coverage and a 2013 Communicator Award of Distinction from the International Academy of the Visual Arts.
