DANBURY, CONN. — The Danbury Public Library, Western Connecticut State University, the Danbury Public Schools and Wooster School will hold a press conference at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24, launching the fourth annual “One Book, One Community” (OBOC).

The event will be held in the Ruth A. Haas Library on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The annual “One Book One Community” program is to encourage everyone in Danbury to read the same book. This year’s selection is “Farewell, My Subaru,” author Doug Fine’s eco-adventures of “going green.”

Residents are invited to join freshmen at WCSU, Wooster School and Danbury High School students as they read and study the book and engage in several special activities to complement the book’s theme. Copies of the book are available to borrow at the Danbury library.

In his book, Fine details the yearlong experience of living with as little carbon fuel as possible. He turns his New Mexico ranch into a green environment and raises two goats to sustain organic food production. Two local goats, Bill and Bucky, will attend the press conference and Danbury resident Peter Efthimiatos will bring his vehicle, which runs on vegetable oil, to campus.

In October, OBOC will host a series of events, including a community bike ride, a farm-to-table dinner and panel discussion on environmental issues. Fine will visit the campus on Oct. 25. For a list of scheduled events, visit www.onebookdanbury.org/events.
