WestConn’s ‘Graveyard Crawl’ will have something for everyone
DANBURY, CONN. — It’s a walk for families, a race for runners, a costume contest for those with Halloween spirit — and fun for everyone.
On Sunday, Oct. 18, Western Connecticut State University’s recreation department will hold its first “Graveyard Crawl.” A 5K run and a 1-mile “Family Fun Walk,” the event will start at 4 p.m., rain or shine, on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Ext. in Danbury and will be contained to the Westside campus. Racers and walkers will finish among a field of luminaries.
The 3.1-mile race will be chip-timed and prizes will be awarded to: top male and female overall winners; top two finishers (male and female) in each category of juniors (17 and under), open (18-49) and masters (50 and older); top male and female WestConn students; top male and female WestConn alumni; and top male and female WestConn faculty/staff. Prizes also will be awarded for the top four most creative Halloween costumes.
The 5K registration is $15 by Friday, Oct. 9, and $20 after Oct 9. The race is free for WestConn students and $10 for faculty, staff and alumni and $15 after Oct. 9. Race day registration is from 2 to 3:30 p.m. The Family Fun Walk is free, although pre-registration is encouraged. Application forms can be found at www.wcsu.edu/recreation.
All proceeds from the event will benefit WestConn student fitness and wellness programs.
