WCSU 2016 – Honors Program whale watching trip
DANBURY, CONN. — The Western Connecticut State University Kathwari Honors Program will host a trip to the New England Aquarium in Boston on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016. The trip will also include a whale watch and free time to explore the city.
The bus will depart at 8 a.m. from the shuttle stop across from the Honors House on the Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The bus will return at approximately 8 p.m.
Tickets are on sale now at the Info Desks in the Midtown Student Center and Westside Campus Center. Prices are $56 for students and $99 for the general public.
Participants are encouraged to wear warm clothing and bring extra money for lunch and shopping.
Assistant Director of the Kathwari Honors Program Jessica Lin said that one of the main goals of the program is to “sponsor events that promote both the intellectual curiosity and the broadening of individual horizons through community outreach and resources.
“In taking the students off campus to places such as the Boston Aquarium, not only is it a great day off and away from their usual pace of work and studies, but our students also get a chance to get to know each other, the community members, staff and faculty members who join us on these trips outside in unexplored and new places,” Lin said.

In 1987, the honors program at Western Connecticut State University was founded to foster and nurture academic excellence among outstanding students in all four schools of the university. It is built on the fundamental assumption that knowledge is an open set of questions and ideas to be explored, rather than a closed set of facts to be memorized.
WCSU’s Kathwari Honors Program is arguably one of the more innovative programs in the country. It is designed to expose students to fundamental modes of inquiry found in various academic fields, and to illustrate the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to exploring a topic or issue.
