DANBURY, CONN. — Plummeting employment rates and stagnant economic growth may seem the precursors to a bleak future, but best-selling author John Perkins has some challenging economic ideas that he will share in an upcoming lecture at Western Connecticut State University.

At 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, Perkins will present “Hoodwinked! What Wrecked our Economy? How to Fix it” in the Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The lecture is free and open to the public.

The author of “Hoodwinked” and “Confessions of an Economic Hit Man” (which was on the New York Times bestseller list for more than a year), Perkins describes the past 50 years as history’s first truly global empire. While the state of today’s economy “appears catastrophic to many people,” he said, “it also offers great opportunities.”

Perkins is founder and board member of Dream Change and The Pachamama Alliance, nonprofit organizations devoted to establishing a world our children will want to inherit. He has also written several books about indigenous cultures and transformation, including “Shapeshifting,” “The World Is As You Dream It,” “Psychonavigation,” “Spirit of the Shuar” and “The Stress-Free Habit.”
