WCSU 2016 – Love wins at WCSU
DANBURY, CONN. — “Love Wins! A Celebration of Music to Benefit the Ana Grace Project and the Ana Márquez-Greene Scholarship at WCSU” will be from 8 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, in the Veronica Hagman Concert Hall of the Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC) on the Western Connecticut State University Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury.
The Love Wins! concert will feature Regina Carter on violin, Christian Sands on piano, Russell Malone on guitar, Ben Allison on bass, Alvester Garnett on drums and WCSU Coordinator of Jazz Studies and Assistant Professor of Music Jimmy Greene on saxophone. The event is hosted by the WCSU Department of Music.
Ticket sales and donations will support The Ana Grace Project, an organization “dedicated to promoting love, community and connection for every child and family,” and the Ana Grace Márquez-Greene Music Scholarship, an endowed memorial music scholarship for incoming freshmen at WCSU. Both the project and the scholarship fund were created to honor the memory of Ana Grace Márquez-Greene, daughter of Jimmy Greene and Nelba Márquez-Greene, who lost her life in Sandy Hook on Dec. 14, 2012.
Ana’s mother, Nelba Márquez-Greene, said, “We are thrilled to honor Ana’s life by making significant financial contributions to the community. This evening is everything Ana was about: joy, music, love. We are thankful to WCSU, Klingberg [Family Centers] and the community members who love and remember Ana.”
Tickets are $35 for general admission and $50 for a VIP reception with the musicians before the concert. A limited number of $20 WCSU student tickets are available with a valid WCSU I.D. at the VPAC box office. For more information and tickets, visit the concert’s Eventbrite page.
