2011 WCSU Opera to present ‘The Old Maid and the Thief’

DANBURY, CONN. — The Western Connecticut State University Opera will present Gian-Carlo Menotti’s one-act opera “The Old Maid and the Thief” at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 6, in the Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury.

Menotti’s opera tells the story of the lonely Miss Todd, who takes in a homeless visitor named Bob. Miss Todd and her maid, Laetitia, are so captivated by Bob that they devise a scheme to keep him hidden in Miss Todd’s home for an extended stay. The plot takes several turns as Miss Todd and Laetitia compete for Bob’s affection.

The role of Miss Todd is performed by Amanda Forker, of Wethersfield, and Laetitia is sung by Jacqueline Boutote, of Waterbury. Miss Pinkerton is portrayed by Annie Bryson, of Shelton, and Bob is played by Brendan Stone, of Wolcott.

The public is invited and admission will be free.
