Ernie J. Ostuno

Originally from Cheshire, Connecticut, Ernie’s interest in meteorology began on the farm, where the weather played a huge role in everyday life. After a stint in the U.S. Army, Ernie got a bachelor’s degree in Meteorology from Western Connecticut State University in 1993 as one of the very first graduating classes in the program. He began a career with the National Weather Service the next year, arriving at State College, Pennsylvania just days after a record snowstorm that capped the wild winter of 1994. Ernie moved to the Grand Rapids, Michigan NWS office in October 1999 where he has served as a Senior Forecaster ever since. His main interests include storm damage surveying and lake effect snow. His hobbies include amateur astronomy, gardening, and searching for fossils along the shore of Lake Michigan.
