Accounting Society Video Conference on Sept. 24opens IMAGE file VIRTUAL MULTI-MEDIA PRESENTATION: Dr. Gloria Arjona, a lecturer at CalTech Pasadena and the University of Southern California, will present a virtual music and multimedia lecture from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Born in El Paso and raised in Mexico City, Arjona has a distinctive way of lecturing through music, stories, media, traditional attire and living pictures to draw attention on the rich cultures and traditions of Latin America, in particular Mexico and the US-Mexico border. VIRTUAL MUDRA MEDITATION SERIES: The Institute for Holistic Health Studies at WCSU will host virtual Mudra Meditation at 7:30 p.m. via Zoom. The class will be conducted by Jesse Rovero. In this meditation class, learn simple ways to use your thoughts and words to create a successful meditation practice . The mudras are simple finger and hand positions that enhance the meditative state and simply by placing your fingers and hands in different positions, you can create different effects in your body. The purpose of this meditation is to create a state of mindfulness/thoughtless awareness. STUDENTS OF COLOR SUPPORTING EACH OTHER: (SCSEO): This is a support group for students who self-identify as persons of color. The group provides a safe space for students to share and discuss Drive In Movie Dirty Dancingopens IMAGE file their experiences related to, but not limited to, race and ethnicity, their identity, discrimination and bias, stress management, academic stresses, self-advocacy and empowerment. The purpose of the group is to celebrate the diverse cultural background of members and find strength among one another to overcome life challenges, personally and academically. VIRTUAL AQUARIUM TOUR WITH RA TIONNE: All Pinney Hall residents are invited to join RA Tionne at 2 p.m. and experience the Monterey Bay Aquarium virtually with live cameras of various animals and sea life at the aquarium. Residents will learn about sea life and those who attend will be entered into a raffle for a prize.

HOW TO TAKE THE CITY BUS: Centennial Hall residents are invited to join RA Kanalla Hay at 2 p.m. to learn how to take advantage of Danbury’s public transportation and get the most out of their U-Pass. Centennial Hall residents will receive a WebEx invitation via their student email.

NEWBURY HAS NO HATE: Starting at 3 p.m., all Newbury Hall residents are invited to participate in this educational program hosted by RA Destiny Barnum. The program will focus on current events in the U.S., including social, political and environmental injustices. Residents will be encouraged to share their positive affirmations with the group with the intent of creating a larger-scale collage that will be displayed in the Newbury Hall first floor.

Litchfield Hallopens IMAGE file LITCHFIELD HALL GROCERY BINGO: From 6 to 8 p.m., all Litchfield Hall residents are invited to attend Grocery Bingo in the Main Lounge of Litchfield Hall. The number of people allowed to participate will depend on adequate spacing and social distancing restrictions. Participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Winners of bingo will be rolling, with many winners able to choose from various grocery items.

JUST ADDED: PENPAL DOWN THE HALL: Penpal down the hall will be an interactive program from the beginning of October stretching to Thanksgiving break and move-out. Residents will sign up and write an initial letter anonymously to another anonymous resident student in Pinney, working to build new relationships and practice social outreach. They’ll be paired up, and will participate in a kind of penpal exchange game, following some social prompts, throughout both months.

ARTS ARE > GREATER THAN: is open to artists in Connecticut and New York, and will be curated by Joanne Hunter, the director and co-owner of The Art Spot, a school of fine arts in Danbury. The deadline for submitting art is 5 p.m. on Oct. 9. The exhibit will run from Oct. 28 through January 2021. For non-members, the fee is $30 for first entry and $10/ea for additional entries. The maximum is three entries for this exhibit. JUST ADDED: PENPAL DOWN THE HALL: Penpal down the hall will be an interactive program from the beginning of October stretching to Thanksgiving break and move-out. Residents will sign up and write an initial letter anonymously to another anonymous resident student in Pinney, working to build new relationships and practice social outreach. They’ll be paired up, and will participate in a kind of penpal exchange game, following some social prompts, throughout both months.

RUN OR DYE FUN RUN:  Join WestConn REC and PAC for one of our favorite events!  The Run or Dye Fun Run will be taking place on Sunday, 10/18.  We will be adhering to social distancing guidelines, so we have made a few changes to the event.  This year’s registration will include signing up for a specific race time, so that we can manage the number of participants out on the course – don’t worry, you can still run with your friends!  The start and finish of the run will be relocated to the westside recreation field.  T-shirts and masks to the first 150 registered, so keep an eye out for the registration link coming soon!  This event is FREE of charge for current students, faculty and staff.  Unfortunately we are not permitting guests or the general public to participate this year.   Please contact Amy Shanks at shanksa@wcsu.educreate new email with any questions.
