DANBURY, CONN. — For five days next week, a professor, five alumni and two students from Western Connecticut State University will perform together as part of a CT Free Shakespeare (CFS) production.

From 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5, through Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015, the WCSU community members will show their skills in Pedro Calederon de la Barca’s light-hearted musical comedy “Mornings of April and May” at Bridgeport’s Beardsley Zoo. The outdoor performances are free and open to the public. It is recommended that attendees bring chairs and blankets.

LeRoy Walton, a recent WCSU graduate, is CFS’s resident production stage manager; set designer Liz Popiel is a professor at WCSU in the Theatre Arts Department; Lynette Marshall, also a recent graduate, will play the role of Lucia; Valarie Henry, a recent design/technology graduate, is the costume designer; and Kezia Waters, a senior musical theatre major, is the assistant stage manager.

“Mornings of April and May” is about love, honor, jealousy and fidelity, with healthy doses of comedic devices such as mistaken identity and eavesdropping. The play takes place in Madrid in the 1600s, and the characters include a smooth-talking charmer and a woman who is an independent feminist.
