2015 WCSU students serve organizations with ‘Day of Service’

WCSU students serve organizations with ‘Day of Service’



DANBURY, CONN.
Western Connecticut State University students will again canvas the city to help out a variety of charitable organizations and agencies as part of the annual Western Day of Service.


Four hundred students, faculty and staff will participate on Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., volunteering for a variety of activities to help organizations and those they serve. Work will including raking, trimming, weeding, painting, cleaning offices, washing fire trucks, moving books, working with animals and picking up trash.

“The goal of the event is to help the community, to recognize WCSU students and their commitment to community, and to create an awareness of the opportunity and the value of volunteerism as part of a college education,” said Dr. Walter Cramer, dean of students at WCSU. “Many of our students arrive at Western understanding the value of volunteerism. Many more learn about it here and make it a part of their lives.”

“Western Day of Service” has received a commitment of support from many groups and athletic teams from the university, including the women’s basketball team, women’s soccer team, men’s soccer team, men’s tennis team, men’s baseball team, women’s softball team, women’s swimming and diving team, Honors Program, Greek Council, cheerleading team, Commuter Student Association, Department of Social Work, Student Government Association, Latin American Student Organization, volleyball team, Educational Access & Achievement Program, Recreation Services, Sigma Delta Tau, WXCI, Office of Housing & Residence Life and Student Affairs.
