PeaceJam

PeaceJam at WCSU

PeaceJam Connecticut exists as a collaboration with Western Connecticut State University, which acts as a host University.

WCSU is excited to host PeaceJam trainings and events for teachers and high school and middle school students from across Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts.

We look forward to providing two youth-leadership conferences a year: a slam in the fall to kick-off the program year and a two-day conference with a Nobel Peace Prize winner in the spring to celebrate all the PeaceJammers’ accomplishments. The PeaceJammers will have the opportunity to participate in workshops and family groups where they will discuss important issues in today’s society and to bring the award-winning PeaceJam curriculum into their schools and classrooms.

Dr. Christopher Kukk, the Director of the Center for Compassion, Creativity, and Innovation and the Kathwari Honors Program emphasizes that: “To be successful, you have to do and not just think; we have a lot of thinkers in our world, but very few doers and teaching this to high school students will be so great.”

PeaceJam’s Mission Statement

The PeaceJam Foundation is an international organization whose mission is to create young leaders committed to positive change in themselves, their communities, and the world through the inspiration of Nobel Peace Laureates who pass on the spirit, skills, and wisdom they embody.

VALUES:

Inspire: The Nobel Peace Laureates are effective role models for people of all ages and their courage, wisdom, determination, and commitment to justice and peace can inspire leaders young and old to create positive change in themselves and the world.

Educate: It is vitally important that we educate ourselves about issues that matter, including the historical and current contexts, and learn the essential skills needed to create a more inclusive and compassionate world.

Act: Each one of us can contribute to positive change by taking steps to address the root cause of problems in our communities and the world. Through inspired and informed action, we can work together to find solutions to our most pressing issues and transform our world.
