Scholarships
These scholarships are offered through the WCSU Foundation, and cannot be applied to individually. More information regarding the WCSU Foundation Scholarships can be found on the scholarships page. Registration starts in late fall / early winter and closes in early March.
STEM Scholarship
Robert and Susan Payne Scholarship
Mathematics, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Chemistry, Biology, Nursing, or Secondary Education with a concentration in STEM majors
Description: This scholarship was established by Robert and Susan Payne to support a full time, undergraduate matriculated student who has completed 24 – 45 credits at WCSU. The applicants must be eligible for in-state tuition and fees with a minimum GPA of 2.75 and demonstrate financial need. This scholarship will be for six consecutive semesters for $6,000 per student per year.

Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences Scholarship
Biology
Description: This scholarship, established in 1999, is awarded to an undergraduate student enrolled in the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences. The recipient must demonstrate financial need.
Chemistry & Biochemistry
Boehringer Ingelheim Biochemistry Scholarship
Biochemistry
Description: This scholarship was created in 1985 by the Boehringer Ingelheim Corporation. It is to be given to undergraduate students with exemplary academic performance in Biochemistry I Lecture, Biochemistry II Lecture and/or Biochemistry Laboratory.
Carey Foundation Fund Scholarship
Chemistry
Description: This scholarship was established in 1999 by Raymond Carey, of Danbury-based Carey Industries, to assist undergraduate chemistry students of outstanding academic merit.
Mathematics
Professor Edwin Rosenberg Scholarship
Description: The Professor (Emeritus) Edwin Rosenberg Scholarship was established with funds received from his former student, Doris Lundberg, M.D. This scholarship honors Professor Rosenberg’s inspiration to a generation of WCSU students through his excellence and dedication to the teaching of mathematics. This scholarship is awarded to a full-time undergraduate mathematics major with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated financial need.
Tao Endowed Scholarship for Peace
Mathematics (preferred) or Business Administration
Description: This endowment was established in 2015 with a donation from the Tao Family, who believes that peace and harmony will be achieved in today’s world through advanced education and by collaboratively working together. It is awarded to a full-time graduate or undergraduate mathematics or business administration major who is participating in a university project that enhances their educational experience at Western.
Physics, Astronomy, Meteorology
Dr. Mel Goldstein Scholarship
Description: This endowment was created to provide scholarships to undergraduate sophomores, juniors, or seniors who are majoring in meteorology. Scholarships will be awarded to students who are in the top 10 percent of the class, preferably in the theoretical meteorology track. Applicants must be involved in meteorology department activities, as well as actively participating in the Weather Center and/or Meteorology Club.
Jonathan Mottley Memorial Scholarship
Description: This scholarship is awarded to the student who has completed the second year of the WCSU meteorology undergraduate program with the highest GPA. It was established in 1998 in memory of WCSU student Jonathan Mottley.
