Jocelyn Villacreses 

My experience through the SURF program at WCSU opened my eyes to all the opportunities the university and the biology department offer. Although I was initially nervous to apply with the limited research skills I had as a sophomore, I am so happy I went through with my decision. I have learned both academic and lifelong skills that will continue to help me in future courses and my career. From becoming a detailed note taker to successfully executing quantitative PCR from start to finish, I am grateful to have had this opportunity. I would not have been able to be successful without my mentor, Dr. Michelle Monette. I am very thankful for the amount of time and effort she spent teaching me these research skills, while also ensuring that I felt supported and guided through this independent research journey. This experience has strengthened my academic career tremendously, and I hope that other students take advantage of this amazing opportunity.
