Office of Judicial Affairs

Faculty(handling challenging behavior in the classroom)

Before submitting the behavior causing concern in the classroom form, please make sure the following is done:

1) You spoke to the student after class or during your office hours.  You can certainly have the department chair with you if you felt uncomfortable meeting with the student by yourself.

2) If you are going to file a disciplinary complaint, please let the student know that you are reporting this to the Office of Judicial Affairs.

3) If you are not going to refer to the Office of Judicial Affairs, you should still create a behavior/classroom expectation with the student and follow-up with the student with an email of those expectations.

4) If you are referring for discipline, you would then fill out the Behavior Causing Concern in the Classroom form following the instructions outlined on that form. Specifically, please do not quote The Student Code of Conduct  or what policies you believe were violated, The Office of Judicial Affairs will determine that.  Simply describe the incident in as much detail as possible.  The Director of Judicial Affairs will keep you updated with the disciplinary process.
