Stephanie Kuhn Wins 2020 Provost’s Award for Teaching

Stephanie Kuhn

Congratulations to Stephanie Kuhn, Assistant Professor, Education and Educational Psychology.

Stephanie received her BS in psychology from Virginia Tech and her MA and PhD in School Psychology from Louisiana State University. She is a licensed psychologist, a board certified behavior analyst, and a licensed behavior analyst. She spent her early career in clinical practice as a psychologist, behavior analyst, and clinical researcher working with individuals with developmental disabilities and severe behavior disorders. Her clinical and research experience is extensive. After completing her pre-doctoral training, Stephanie was on faculty at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She then expanded her clinical work directing an outpatient treatment program at Westchester Institute for Human Development while on faculty at the NY Medical College. Throughout her years at Johns Hopkins and NY Medical College Dr. Kuhn also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell in the Behavioral Interventions in Autism program. The field of behavior analysis experienced a huge increase in interest following the establishment of the Behavior Analysis Certification Board and the establishment of state licensing laws for behavior analysts. These factors led to a large increase in the number of training programs across the country and an influx of new clinicians. As this shift in the field took place, she became more and more interested in the training experiences for students. As a result, she decided to make the shift to teaching at the university level as her primary focus to contribute to the development of a high-quality training program. She joined the WCSU Education and Educational Psychology Department faculty in 2016 in the Applied Behavior Analysis Program. She is the program coordinator and teaches in the MS in Applied Behavior Analysis program. Her scholarly work has primarily focused on the assessment and treatment of severe behavior and has recently involved addressing enhancements of online teaching and socialization/communication deficits among adolescents and young adults diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
