RECYCLING – UNIVERSAL WASTE

Universal waste refers to certain categories of hazardous waste that are commonly generated by a wide variety of establishments (EPA). This includes batteries, fluorescent lamps, electronic scrap and mercury-containing devices.

All universal waste at WCSU must be brought to the nearest accumulation area. EHS checks these areas monthly and moves the waste to a central storage location, so that it can be recycled by a licensed waste vendor.

TYPES OF UNIVERSAL WASTE

Multiple types of batteries (button cell, rechargeable)
Multiple types of lamps (fluorescent, high-intensity discharge, UV)
Multiple types of electronics (computer parts, phone, circuit board, TV)
Multiple types of mercury devices (mercury instrument, thermostat, switch)
Electrical ballast
