Faculty Biographical Sketches

Dr. Jeff Schlicht: Professor, Coordinator of Wellness Management Option in BS Health Promotion Studies

Dr. Jeff Schlicht has been a member of the HPX faculty since 2000. He is coordinator of the Fitness and Wellness Option in the Health Promotion Studies BS program and directs several other campus and community programs including:

· The American College of Sports Medicine’s Exercise is Medicine® on Campus program in articulation with Health Service, the Counseling Center, and Recreation

· The Institute for Holistic Health Studies’ Exercise Counseling program

· Practical Strength Training™, a community exercise program for older adults and people with disabilities, in partnership with Ability Beyond and United Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York

Dr. Schlicht completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of California, San Diego (1988), a Masters of Arts in Physical Education at San Diego State University (1994), and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Sport, Leisure, and Exercise Science at the University of Connecticut (1999). His doctoral dissertation examined the effect of strength training exercise on functional fitness in older adults. He continues to do community research with older adults and has expanded his interests to working with adults with disabilities.
