Faculty & Alumnae Exhibition Announcement

Ecosophy, curated by Katerina Lanfranco at G-Town Arts
Associate Professor of Art Sabrina Marques is highlighted alongside two WCSU Art alumnae in a group exhibition titled "Ecosophy," curated by Katerina Lanfranco, currently on display in GTown Art’s Project Room. The exhibition showcases artists whose creations reflect themes of transformation, biophilia, and ecological consciousness. It presents a diverse array of artistic styles and mediums. Works exhibited span abstract, representational, narrative, and conceptual forms, all interconnected by ecological themes of coexistence, environmental awareness, and highlighting the interconnectedness of ecology, ethics, and society while celebrating the complexity of nature. The artists participating in Ecosophy include: Marion Belanger, Nicholas Cueva, Daisy Gesualdi, Kelsey Gilmore, Aidan Haley, Debbie Hesse, Elizabeth Insogna, Katherine Keltner, Benjamin Klein, Rita Leduc, Maria Markham, Sabrina Marques, Donna Mnoum, Sue Muskat, Brooke Toczylowski, Rosanne Walsh, among others.
Sabrina Marques’s artwork intricately combines folklore, fiction, and whispered truths. Infused with humor and reverie, her pieces explore the movement of birds across environments altered by human intervention. In these vibrant, textured compositions, birds serve as both witnesses and companions—reminding us of the delicate equilibrium between the natural world and our own behaviors in the Anthropocene. Her artistic journey starts with a sense of curiosity: what insights might non-human animals possess regarding their experiences, emotions, or memories? What narratives do they carry through changing habitats? Through this perspective, Marques encourages us to examine not just her paintings, but also our collective responsibility for the world we influence.
