Gideon Bok

Gideon Bok is a painter from Maine who received his BA and MA degrees from Hampshire College and his MFA from Yale University. He also studied in Florence, Italy, and at the NY Studio School. He has had numerous solo exhibitions in museums and galleries since 1996, including Alpha Gallery in Boston, Steven Harvey Fine Art Projects in NY, the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, and the University of Maine. His work has been reviewed in The Boston Globe, The New York Times, ARTNews, and Art New England, among others.

From 1998 to 2006, Bok taught painting and drawing at Hampshire College and later taught in the Post-Baccalaureate Painting Program at Brandeis University. A recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, he also received a Purchase Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. In addition to the Academy, his works are in the collections of the Boston Athenaeum, Farnsworth Art Museum, Danforth Art Museum, Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, and the William Louis-Dreyfus Collection.
