Kelly Popoff

Kelly Popoff was born in Akron, Ohio and now lives in Greenfield, MA. She received her MFA in 2001 from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and her BFA from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Her awards have included two artist grants (2013, 2015) and a fellowship/residency in 2017, all from the Vermont Studio Center. She also received grants from Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, Sustainable Arts Foundation, and Durham Arts Council.

Popoff’s work is socially charged and for the last two decades has addressed concerns of childhood. Her themes are based on her own early experiences and observations of others. Inspired by old yearbook images and antique objects of Americana, Popoff looks at the past to respond to the present and future. Her process involves a combination of materials with drawing and painting used interchangeably. Since 2008, her work has been exhibited across the U.S., with a recent solo show in 2016 at The University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She currently teaches at Greenfield Community College in Massachusetts.
