Travel Information

It’s going to take a bit of work to WCSU’s campus.  Here’s some important information for you on getting to campus from local airports.

Bradley International, Windsor Locks, Connecticut

Although closer than some of the NYC airports, Bradley is perhaps the most difficult in terms of public transportation.

Bus Service to Danbury is available. Ask at the Information Desk or an airline employee where to find a bus to take you to Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.

You may also be able to hire a car or shuttle service. More information on car and shuttle services may be found when you click on the photo link.

Once in Danbury, call for a taxi at 203-792-0029 or (203) 792-8294, and ask the taxicab driver to take you to Western Connecticut State University, Old Main building.

Laguardia (LGA) or Kennedy (JFK) airports, New York City

Transportation is more readily available from Laguardia and JFK airports than from Bradley.

Buses and trains are available from the airports to Manhattan, and from there, to Danbury. Here are some of the services available:

AirTrain JFK
Take the AirTrain from JFK to the subway or bus service into Manhattan (Grand Central Station). From there, take a MetroNorth train to Danbury, CT or to Brewster, NY. Finally, call a taxi to take you to the WCSU Midtown Campus (181 White Street), Old Main building. The AirTrain and subway cost into Manhattan will cost about $7.50.

Metro North Railroad

From Manhattan’s Grand Central Station terminal, you can take a Metro North train to one of two locations. You may take the New Haven line to the Danbury station. This trip requires that you change trains in South Norwalk, but the Danbury station is only 1/2 mile or so from the WCSU Midtown campus. A one-way ticket on the train will cost about $20.

You may also take the Harlem line to Brewster, New York. This trip does not require changing trains, but is a little farther from campus. Once arriving in Brewster, you will need to hail a taxicab at the stand in front of the station, ask the driver to take you to Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, CT (181 White Street), Old Main building. Again, the cost for the train is about $20. The taxi may cost about $30.

Peter Pan Bus (also serving Bonanza and Greyhound bus lines)

Click image to link to Peter Pan Bus) Several bus lines run to Danbury from Manhattan. From the Port Authority Bus Terminal (625 8th Ave. & W. 42nd Street) Peter Pan Bus Line offers service to Danbury. The cost is approximately $20.00. The bus stop is just off Main Street. Call a taxicab at 203-792-0029.

Newark Liberty Airport, Newark, New Jersey

(Click image to link to AirTrain Newark) Like JFK, Newark Liberty Airport also has AirTrain service into Manhattan. From Newark, you can catch the AirTrain into NY’s Penn Station. The cost is about $13.00. From Penn Station, take the subway to Grand Central Station (cost approximately $2.25), where you can switch to the Metro North train. You may take Metro North’s Harlem line to Brewster (cost about $20), and a taxicab can be hailed there to take you to Danbury (cost about $30). Or, take the New Haven line to Danbury (requiring yet another train change in South Norwalk.) The Danbury train station is about 1/2 mile from the midtown campus.

Call a taxicab at 203-792-0029.

Newark Liberty Transportation

A variety of shuttle and car services are available into Manhattan from Newark Liberty Airport. Like the AirTrain, most will require you to make several stops and transfers between Newark and Danbury. It may be more reasonable (or just easier!) for you to hire a car service to drive you directly from Newark to Danbury. The transportation site at Newark’s website lists some options available to you.

Logan Airport, Boston, Massachusetts

Peter Pan Bus (also serving Bonanza and Greyhound bus lines)

Transport is available from Logan to Danbury via Peter Pan Bus again. You can catch a bus from Logan into Boston, and from Boston to Danbury. Please see the Peter Pan webpage (click the photo) for more complete information. The bus stop is again just off Main Street, and you may call a taxicab at 203-792-0029 or (203) 792-8294.
