The Housing & Residence Life offices have many calls and visits on any given day, as well as a significant amount of data entry and other office work.  We rely on our office assistants to help things move smoothly in the office.  Most days, you’ll answer phone calls and help our secretary enter information into our databases as students apply for housing, request room changes, choose a new meal plan, and other business.   There’s also filing of associated paperwork.  The Office Assistants also are usually the first point of contact for visitors to the office, and are essential for getting the appropriate information to the visitor, or directing them to the right people in the office who can best assist them.

How do I become an Office Assistant?

Office assistants are hired usually before the semester begins, or early in the semester.  The department’s secretary will provide an application to those who are interested, and will interview and hire them.  Don’t be afraid to stop by the offices in Pinney Hall at any time to speak with her about what might be available.

The office is open Monday – Friday only, from 8 am – 4:30 pm.  We need students who have times available during those hours.

Do I get paid to be an Office Assistant? YES!

Of course you do!  Housing Office Assistants are paid, minimally, $15/hour.  Students hired as office assistants generally follow a weekly schedule of hours worked, so their hours remain consistent throughout the semester.  On occasion, some office assistants may be hired to work during break periods such as intersession, spring break, or the summer.
