The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program at Western Connecticut State University is a federally funded initiative designed to help eligible students thrive academically, personally and professionally. Whether you’re the first in your family to attend college, come from a modest income background, or have a documented disability, TRIO SSS is here to support your journey to graduation and beyond.
Our Mission
The TRIO Support Services at WCSU is committed to the success of students who are first-generation, income-eligible, and/or students with disabilities. our mission is to empower scholars to:
- Enhance the positive skills, knowledge, and attributes needed to complete a WCSU Bachelor’s degree
- Achieve maximum academic success and career readiness
- Graduate as well-rounded, skilled, and self-actualized professionals and citizens
What SSS at WCSU Offers:
- Academic and personal coaching
- Tutoring and mentoring services
- Career counseling
- Financial literacy education
- Student Success Center lab with free printing
- Graduate school & professional school planning
- Assistance in completing federal and state financial aid applications
- Cultural and social events
- textbook, laptop, calculator loans
- Monitoring of academic progress
Participants admitted to WCSU SSS program commit to:
- Attend weekly tutoring and mentoring sessions with SSS Academic Success Coaches
- Participate in academic and professional development programming until graduation from WCSU
- Attend at least two SSS sponsored events during each semester
Who is Eligible to Join WCSU’s SSS
In order to be considered, students must meet at least one or more of the following:
- Be a first generational college student (neither parent has a four-year degree from a U.S. institution of higher education)
- Meet federal income guidelines
- Have a documented disability
And also be:
- A U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Admitted and enrolled, or eligible to be enrolled, at WCSU in the current or next academic term
- Seeking academic support
