John Hickok – Adjunct Professor (Performance Techniques, Meisner, Director)

John Hickok (Adjunct Professor) On Broadway, John originated the roles of Governor Slaton in Parade, Zoser in Elton John’s Aida, and Professor Bhaer in Little Women, and can be heard on all three cast albums. Also on Broadway: Man & Boy opposite Frank Langella, Our Country’s Good, and Rupert Holmes’ Accomplice. 

In December he’ll be playing Cowboy Eddie at the George Street Playhouse in the world premiere of the new musical Joy. Some favorite roles among many – John Adams /1776, Mercutio / Romeo & Juliet, Pontius Pilate /Jesus Christ Superstar, Andrew Aguecheek / Twelfth Night, Beauregard opposite Michelle Lee / Mame, Polonius / Hamlet, Dillard Nations with James Whitmore / Foxfire, Lt. Kaffee / A Few Good Men, Garry LeJuene / Noises Off, and Lord Edgar / Jane in The Mystery of Irma Vep 

He guest-starred on all the Law & Orders, also Blacklist and Body of Proof. Most importantly, he plays the role of Agent Milton in Red Dead Redemption 2. 

He directed the acclaimed world premiere of DMW Greer’s Burning Blue at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on London’s West End (2 Olivier nominations), as well productions in LA, San Francisco, and NYC.  He’s directed straight plays, musicals & classics all over the country, notably the off-B’way premiere of Eye of the Beholder starring Kim Hunter, and Bus Stop, chosen as one of the “10 Best Plays of 1980” by the Boston Phoenix. In addition to dramaturging & directing numerous plays and musical readings, he worked with Hal at the Hal Prince Musical Theatre Workshop as a director for several years. 

As an educator, he taught Shakespeare and directed Hot L Baltimore at Bard College, taught Shakespeare and directing at Queens college, where he also directed Twelfth Night, directed RentUrinetown, and Spring Awakening at CCSU, and directed You Can’t Take it With YouAnne of Green Gables, A Christmas Carol, and Company at WCSU, where he been on faculty for the past six years.
